skalypso: Watch this space......forthcoming fun

About many years ago long time, skalypso tone had an idea to create something new and fresh for Norwich. Yes I know, about time. A combination of an age of collecting music that he had, and still has, a true passion for.

It's music from the West Indies: Ska, Rock-Steady and Reggae. Soon he began to dig a little deeper and discovered that there was a root, planted well before Ska....it was called Mento (original folk music of Jamaica) and not far away was Calypso from Trinidad and Goombay from Haiti, to name but a few. He added that into the pot and then Spenny Spen (original crew) reinforced things with a fasicnating input of West African High-Life from its golden age. Soon come was the other delites from Senegal, Kenya, the Congo and the Sudan...yum yum...not to mention cross-over Afro-Latin and Cumbia from South America, while I extended explorations into Quadrille, Bula Waya, Mazurka and Tumba and on and on....

Joining in from time to time are local heroes (well... maybe in their own lunch hour!) such as Kingston Daddy and Conscious Ken (aka The Troubadours) and Caspar the Great and the man like Junior J etc etc... He also plans to have one or two treats for 2011 with ...well, we'll tell you when they say yes ;)

Norwich may be down but it ain't out, not yet! The music selected is packed full of sunshine, happiness and joy.

Now time is 2011 ya hear and it's time to get your pretty little things out and about.

Come come senora...jump in a line....shake your body in time :))
